We are in passionate pursuit of the fulfillment of Jesus Christ’s promise to build his church.
“And on this rock I will build my church,
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Our Method is Simple.
Church planters to become effective Harvest Bible Chapel Senior Pastors, and Worship Leaders to lead people in Vertical worship.
Vibrant, high-impact local Harvest Bible Chapels that reproduce themselves, and we replant transitioning churches into Harvest Bible Chapels.
Pastors and leaders with ongoing, ministry training and resources.
Our Vision and Reach is Global.
Harvest Bible Fellowship was founded in 2002 by Pastor James MacDonald to oversee the church-planting mission of Harvest Bible Chapel. We believe healthy things multiply, so we set out not just to plant churches, but to plant church-planting churches. In 2017, Harvest Bible Fellowship became autonomous from the founding Harvest Bible Chapel and is now undergoing a global regionalization of church planting.
James MacDonald (D. Min. Phoenix Seminary) is the founder and Senior Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel. He has led the church since its inception in 1988 with just 18 people, to the present—with seven campuses in the Chicago area and 13,000 weekly attenders. His practical teaching of God’s Word is broadcast daily around the world on radio and TV through the program, Walk in the Word.
In 2002, Dr. MacDonald founded Harvest Bible Fellowship, a church-planting network, which started more than 160 vertical churches on four continents impacting communities through the truth of God’s Word.
THE FOUR PILLARS
Harvest Bible Fellowship and all Harvest Bible Chapels
are founded upon these Four Pillars:
2 Timothy 4:2
Founding & Senior Pastor
Harvest Bible Chapel
James MacDonald (D. Min. Phoenix Seminary) is married to his high school sweetheart, Kathy, and both are from Ontario, Canada. He is the father of three grown children and grandfather to five amazing grandsons. James has committed his life and ministry to the unapologetic proclamation of God’s Word. In 1988, with just eighteen people, James and Kathy planted Harvest Bible Chapel, which now ministers to more than 13,000 on seven campuses in the greater Chicago area each weekend.
In addition to his preaching ministry, James began the Bible-teaching ministry Walk in the Word on one radio station in 1997. Today, the Walk in the Word radio broadcast reaches more than three million people every day, and the television program, which started in 2014, has a daily audience that extends around the world.
In 2002, James founded the church-planting network Harvest Bible Fellowship. Now, more than 160 vertical churches on four continents are impacting their communities through the truth of God’s Word, with the vision of planting 1000 churches.
James’ extensive ministry also includes the worship and songwriting ministry Vertical Church Band, the film-making ministry Vertical Church Films, the Harvest Training Center for pastors, the accredited Harvest Christian Academy (for pre-K through grade 12), a year-round camp, a center for biblical counseling, and a disaster-recovery organization—all to reach more people with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.
James has authored several books and Bible studies, including: Act Like Men; Vertical Church; Lord, Change Me; Lord, Change My Attitude; When Life is Hard; Always True; and most recently, The Will of God IS the Word of God. He and his wife Kathy live in the Chicago area near their three adult children who serve alongside them in ministry.

Director of International Church Planting, Coaching
Kirk has attended Harvest in Rolling Meadows since 2001 and joined the staff of Harvest as Director of Missions in 2004. Kirk met his beautiful wife, Grace, at Harvest while leading a ministry to Spanish-speaking migrant workers in Rolling Meadows. They were married in 2006 and have been committed to the ministry of raising up and sending workers into the fields that God has purposed for Harvest.
Kirk received a bachelor’s degree from Mid-America Nazarene University in business and communications and served for more than seven years as an Organizational Development Engineer for IBM Global Services, DST Systems, and ARC.
Burdened with reaching the lost and ministering cross-culturally, Kirk was led to full-time ministry and enrolled at Moody Bible Institute in 2003. God has since refined Kirk’s call to one that is focused on the church and seeing a reproducing, church-planting movement internationally through Harvest. Kirk joined Harvest Bible Fellowship in 2005 at the onset of the first church plant in Romania.

Executive Assistant at HBF
Andrea Young was hired in December of 2015 as Kent Shaw’s Executive Assistant, Andrea worked for Harvest Bible Chapel six years before joining the HBF team. She has worked in Children’s, Student’s and Adult Ministry, bringing to HBF a strong understanding of the various ministries Harvest supports. She is thrilled to be part of Harvest Bible Fellowship, and waits with expectation to see all that the Lord will do and continue to do.
Andrea married her high school sweetheart Bob in 1996, and they have three boys Kyler (class of 2018); Kaden (class of 2021) and Chase (class of 2023). The boys all have the privilege of attending Harvest Christian Academy where their dad is the Assistant Principal. Bob and Andrea have been attending Harvest since 2003, and have deeper growing relationship with Christ with each year that goes by. Each of their boys have made a profession of faith either during a trip to Camp Harvest or a message during Harvest Kids.
Andrea is a West Coast native, living up and down California’s coast as well as a few years in Southern Oregon. While she has lived in Illinois longer then she lived on the west coast, she adamantly refuses to call herself a Mid-westerner. Though she does say ‘sorry’ a lot, she refuses to call soda, “pop” and says ‘freeway’ when talking about the interstate system. She also cringes when people mispronounce Oregon.
